Gary Coyle at the Royal Hibernian Academy

Gary Coyle

19/03/2010 - 02/05/2010

Kevin Kavanagh is pleased to announce a major show by gallery artists in the Royal Hibernian Academy, opening Thurs 18 March, 6-8pm.

In gallery I, Gary Coyle presents At Sea, a collection of sea photographs and drawings; sculpture and installation; performance (26th & 27th March) as well as ephemera and documentary material.
In galleries II & III, Oliver Comerford presents a mid-career retrospective of work from the last two decades.
Publications – including limited editions – for both artists will be available at the reception & during the exhibitions.

Virtually every day for more than a decade Gary Coyle has gone for a swim at the Forty Foot in Sandycove. During his eleven year swim-a-thon he has kept a record of his experience through detailed diaries and photographs. At Sea, in Gallery 1 of the RHA, is the culmination of the work arising from this long-term project.

The book, At Sea published by Kevin Kavanagh, with essays by Patrick T. Murphy, Christa-Maria Lerm Hayes & Maeve Connolly is available for €20.
A book and giclée print set - limited to an edition of 100 - is also available at €150.

There will be a performance by the artist, in the gallery on the 26th and 27th March at 7pm.
The At Sea performance explores one man's observations of places, obsessive swimming, death and performance art. Expect to see a bloke, sitting on stage behind a desk, projecting his photographs of the sea, telling stories, some funny and some sad.
Tickets €10. Contact frontofhouse@rhagallery.ie or tel: 01 661 2558
