Amygdalae

Maedhbh McMahon

19 April 2007 - 12 May 2007

Kevin Kavanagh in association with Far Cry Productions is pleased to present Amygdalae, an exhibition of new work by Maedhbh McMahon.

Maedhbh McMahon’s first solo exhibition draws on Ireland’s social history and in particular the traumatic memory of the Magdalen Laundries.

Through a series of handmade dresses, McMahon connects the viewer to those who toiled in such institutions, both the nuns and the residents. Each dress contains an individual essence - a memory, a trapped trauma. The title of the show Amygdalae, refers to a part of the brain where unconscious memory, trauma and fear are stored.

Maedhbh was born in Limerick in 1968 and completed an MA in Scenography in St Martins College London in 2005. Since returning to Ireland, she has collaborated with Far Cry Productions Arts Company (www.farcryproductions.ie).

Olive Braiden will open the exhibition on Thursday 19 April at 6.30pm.
