Kevin Kavanagh is pleased to present Doppelganger, an exhibition of new paintings by Alison Pilkington.

Pilkington’s latest exhibition, Doppelganger, consists of a series of diptychs and multiple paintings, each painting sitting beside its copy – sometimes inverted or mirrored. As a playful repetition of marks, Pilkington’s latest works prompt a philosophical enquiry into notions of subject and object, of replicas and originals, of ritual and routine. Each pair also forms a solid unified whole, equally concerned with aesthetic qualities. Both aspects of Pilkington’s work are a continuation of the engagement with geometry and colour that informed her previous show at Kevin Kavanagh, Guided By Stars.

As the paintings lock together one can see not only the influence of western abstract painting but also of Islamic and Celtic decorative art.
