The University Margaret Corcoran 22 September 2006 - 21 October 2006 The University is an exhibition of new paintings by Margaret Corcoran. The title piece of the show depicts a campus scene of a Chinese university – cherryblossom and roaming students.
An everyday encounter, a moment of interaction at the cash register of a Spar shop, sparked all of the series of paintings in this show. It seems only recent that workers from other countries have come here, and Corcoran free-associates through both The University and the Consideration series, imagining landscapes of a Chinese aspect – though things are not always as they seem – thereby exploring misconceptions and preconceptions in how we read each other.
On another level, within these series Corcoran is producing works of an unctuous, fresh, brave, nature.
A book with essays by James Elkins, Margaret MacNamidhe, Luke Gibbons and Niamh Ann Kelly has been published to accompany the exhibition. For further information please contact the gallery. Title: Margaret Corcoran: Paintings ISBN: 0-9552525-5-5
